Turtle Mountain 2013-01-11
We were riding at Turtle Mountain on January 11th, last friday. The group was composed of Randy Swenson, Jeff Rozzner, Clint Biggs, Rob Svendson, Riley, Laird and myself, and two their friends of Clint’s from AB.
The valley was clouded in, but it looked like we may get above the valley clouds. Trails were good, Laird and I were catching up to the group as we had a late start due to shop commintments. The rest of the group had broke the trail up through the cut-block and tree’d section of the access into Turtle by the time we caught up. We met up with them at the first Heli drop at alpine elevation. We finally broke out into sunshine at the summit, a small isolated area of sun, but it was welcome, ..we ate our lunch and took some pics.
We continued on our trip back to Pebble Beach, playing along the route while pounding the trail in. We did not encounter any more sun but a had a great day in the very deep powder. The snow was over the handle bars all day, getting stuck was unfortunately the norm. Lots of hard work, but good fun with good friends.
We came down in complete darkness, we didn’t leave Pebble Beach area until close to 5 pm, the sleds were all on fumes, ..the riders were exhausted and in need of refreshments.
Cheers! Cpt. Ron
